McCain & Minorities: Is he really that "aloof," awkward and out of it?

John McCain's got a racial problem. No, he didn't say anything dumb, politically incorrect or send his advisers into clinics looking for nitroglycerin pills.
McCain's problem stem from the impression the east coast dominated press has that he's not done a whole lot for minorities any more than he's done anything for them. At least that's what Arizona's African Americans seem to be saying these days. Not a good sign. Not when you're out slamming the Big O as yet another glittery celebrity and the first thing that comes to mind isn't Tyra Banks but Paris Hilton or Brittany Spears.
Tyra, by the way has more brains in her pinkie than throughout all of Paris' head, torso, etc.
McCain, however, seems to have has less charisma than the Big O on his worst days, Banks without make-up and Hilton when there's no camera focused on her; not even one for a mug shot.
It's not all McCain's fault he doesn't have a lot of "photographed experience" in wooing African American voters. But you only have to watch him "in action" to see that he's not exactly "at home" outside of his normal comfort zone, which is probably a pretty caucasian location.
But I'm going to leave you with a story I just came across about McCain's record when it comes representing minorities, all of them, African Americans to Native Americans. It's alot more impressive than most people might've realized. And the story comes from an unlikely source: The Boston Globe: Home state racial issues test McCain:Black community recalls senator as aloof -- By Sasha Issenberg
Really Long Link
But is he really? All he has to do is pick Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and all bets are off!

The Political Brief
McCain has at least one adopted daughter who isn't of the caucasian persuasion. That sort of negates the racist notion.
Good post, Steven.
