NO "CHOICE" IN THIS ACT: "FREEDOM OF CHOICE ACT" (FOCA)
June 20th 2008 14:41
Looks like I'm going to have to pick a "third choice protest" name to vote for or sit out the presidential election November 4th this year.
Neither John McCain nor Barak Obama is getting my vote. I can't trust McCain, his party, and all the sneaky, slimy and greedy operatives working for the Republican Party, aka Guardians of Plunder (GOP). The more I watched this party do its very best to take the last loaf of bread left on what used to be full shelves (when they took office 2001), the last thing I'd want to bequeath my kids is anymore of the mess this pack of plundering plutocrats proved to be more than culpable of leaving behind.
On the other side, you have this very otherwise inspiring, smart, smooth and suave man representing hope on the outside. I even agree with him on foreign policy issues, such as sitting down and speaking with our upfront, putative and prospective enemies ... (hmmm, could this mean China at least for honesty's sake?) Aside from recognizing the need for off-shore drilling and drilling up in Alaska, Obama's got McCain placed way behind him on environmental issues. And when it comes to dealing with the economy, at least Obama's on the same planet we're all interested in trying to save. If McCain and his buddies keep W-ism in play for another four years, we might as well put a "Foreclosure" sign on the White House yard for starters.
Looks like I should be a “good loyal Democrat” and vote for Obama, right? I was until I had to come to grips with the A-word, meaning ABORTION.
Damn, why does it always have to come back to this word? Just as the S-word, SLAVERY dominated American politics until we had to settle it in small towns mostly throughout the South -- at the cost of 600,000 lives, abortion remains to be one of those "killer" words that'll never leave the American political scene. Today’s battles are fought in legal abortion mills in towns across U.S. of A. During the Civil War, combat weary veterans would often be asked by the “greenhorns” if they’d seen the “elephant,” meaning combat in battle. I’ve seen my (electoral) elephant several times. Here it (and its donkey friend) come again.
Sadly, for the victims of abortion, they'll never see any (Federal) parks or memorials. Worse yet, these littlest and weakest victims of adult behavior and political/judicial indifference, faced the fight for their lives every day. Up until the Supreme Court upheld the Federal Partial Birth Ban on the latest of late-term abortions (the very moment of birth itself!) -- no life was safe in a woman's womb unless she made sure it'd stay that way.
If Barak Obama gets in the White House, one of his first acts as president, (presuming the Democrats sweep enough seats in both houses) to give him a veto-proof Congress) will be to sign the "Freedom of Choice Act." For a man who's doing a relatively fine job of keeping the yapping dogs of K-Street and other influential lobbyists from calling the shots from within his campaign's inner team, he's really flubbed this key moral issue. He's letting National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) call the shots. More to the point, Obama's even come right out and promised a litmus test for picking any prospective Supreme Court nominee. So much for "choice." This is it, take, leave it, or just be quiet about it.
According to NARAL, the FOCA (as written and co-sponsored by Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-CA, and Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-NY)
Presidents come and go, but Congress stays. So we know just where this leads to and what it does. To the best of my knowledge, even supporters of capital punishment haven't pushed anything so radically draconian. Hopefully an Obama signature will lead directly to the Court and a well deserved abortion on appeal.
With Obama, you'll get transparency concerning abortion; with the so-called "big tent" GOP that loves to use Pro-Life Republicans and demoralized (those stubbornly otherwise loyal Democrats) as wedge voters -- Obama's not pulling the wool over anybody's eyes. That doesn't mean we have to like and vote for what we see, either.

"... will establish a federal law guaranteeing reproductive freedom for future generations of American women. This guarantee will protect women's rights even if President Bush and an anti-choice Congress are successful in reversing Roe v. Wade or enacting even more restrictions on our right to choose."
