FEARS OF OBAMA MEETING ENEMIES UNNECESSARY AND UNFOUNDED

June 19th 2008 00:53
Back to Buchanan's Book: Part II.

Well, sort of anyway. Let's jump from September, 1939 when Hitler invaded Poland to the recent display of apopalyptic fears emanating from the US's "necoconservative" (Neocon) wing. Many of these Neocons got their moniker because they used to be leftists, or born into hard-core leftist families. Just as there are "cradle Catholics," nearly every major industrial nation has its share of "red diaper babies."[Over the years, many of these once solid left-wing thinkers in working for colleges and think-tanks, not to mention (mostly Democratic) party ranks and labor unions, grew increasingly dissatisfied with Communism and thoroughly turned off by the smug, yet wholly insensitive, dismissal of the suffering of so many victims of Communist victories in Vietnam, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Cuba and Afghanistan at the hands of many well-heeled and safely tenured leftist academics. If that wasn't enough, they also grew increasingly suspicious of all things leftist in all areas ranging from economics to foreign policy.

Winston Churchill was their shining hero, the champion anti-appeaser bar none. (Read more of Buchanan's book and you might see things many Neocons refuse to see, much less acknowledge that they existed in the first place.

The recent uproar they've thrown up in defiance of both Pat Buchanan's book, The Unnecessary War, and presumptive Democratic Sen. Barak Obama's (D-ILL) suggestion that he'd meet with our enemies without pre-existing conditions only shook their beehive all the more.

C'mon, this is ridiculous. I heard Buchanan on Eternal Word Television Network 's(EWTN) "World Over Show" hosted by Ray Arroyo giving example after example where past presidents such as Nixon and Eisenhower sat down with China's Mao and the Soviet Union's Kruschev, and both of those Communist leaders had plenty of blood left on their hands from their respective handlings of the Great Leap Forward (wherein millions of Chinese were systematically murdered from the mid-60s to 1972) and putting down the Hungarian uprising in 1956.

Why did they meet? Maybe these old men, soldiers no less, simply decided they wanted peace more than another war and it was worth taking the risk of at least meeting with our adversaries and taking their measure as opposed to remaining on edge for so long.

Boy, is that ever a revolutionary thought. Generals seeking peace. While it might seem harder for the media and many academics to understand this, I'm not surprised at all.

But it sure surprises and scares the daylights out of so many armchair strategists sitting in think tanks in and around Washington, DC. Perhaps it just scares them more than anything.
But why. We can blow Iran to kingdom come. Or we can bottle her up, get her to back away from developing nukes and get her people to take matters from there.

That's not impossible, too. And boy does that scare the Neocons as well.
