Politics Ramble - www.politicsramble.com/ Politics Has Many Proverbial Forks In The Road

BUSH PULLS A FAST ONE IN BEIJING, BUT IT'S FOR A GREAT CAUSE (LINK)

August 17th 2008 02:37
By Steven Barrett

Sometimes it takes an old college ball player, baseball team owner and just a regular good ol' Texas sports fan to get the job done, even if he is the President of the United States of America.

What's the job? No less than getting the Beijing Butchers of Tianamen Square and an estimated 70 million Chinese victims of Communism since the Reds took power during the late 40's to hear this simple plea: Let the people worship their God in the way they see fit.

Nixon wouldn't even think of trying to get that across. He was happy that Kissinger got through to Beijing through the back door of Pakistan to open things up in 1972. Ford didn't, Bush's father didn't, Clinton didn't get anywhere. But this Bush did. And we know he did because they were angry as hell at him for it. What made them angrier is that he stole a page out of Reagan's playbook from his visit to Moscow by visiting a Beijing church. And he wow'd the worshippers over.

They finally had confirmation: America's REALLY listening. Chinese Catholics already knew this in their long protracted fight to keep the politburo out of their diocesan chanceries. But the communication lines within a hiearchical system and the more indivi dualistic evangelical churches are vastly different. Beijing doesn't like that in the least. It likes conformity. And the way this overly scripted Olympics, with lipsynching girls, over-regimented basketball players and other all means justify the ends behind the Chinese Women's birth certificate scavenger events, has gone, Bush's visit to that church had to really have frosted their inedible cakes.

When the competitors are gone, the politburo will still have to contend with a force their bayoneted guards have no power over. That scares them to no end.

Congratulations Mr. President.

Our president is a stand up guy, Steven. Imagine Barack Obama doing any such thing...

He'd have to kick it up stairs to his "higher paygrade" Who will tell him, "What do you think I'll recommend ... go to church in wherever ..."

S.L. If he didn't seek God's counsel, rest assure that even on something this blatantly obvious, he might also seek the UN principals advice.
aaaarrggghhh .... I'm dead tired and can't wait till Nov. 5th.
